Your Equifax Business credit report, explained
Equifax keeps a commercial file on your business that is entirely separate from your consumer file. Most owners see it for the first time across a desk from a lender.
What is on an Equifax business credit report?
An Equifax Business credit report holds your company's identifying details, its trade credit history, any public records such as liens or judgments, and a set of commercial scores. The headline figure most lenders quote is the OneScore for Commercial, which runs from 300 to 650, a different scale from any consumer score.
- The Equifax OneScore for Commercial runs 300 to 650. Knowing the range matters: 516 reads very differently on a 300-650 scale than on a 0-100 one.
- Your commercial file is separate from your consumer Equifax file and is keyed to the business.
- Trade references only appear if a supplier reported them.
- Public records (liens, judgments, bankruptcies) are collected from court data, not from you.
What the file is made of
The report has four parts and they answer different questions. The identifying section is the business's name, address, phone and identifiers, and its only job is making sure the rest of the file belongs to you. It is also where merge errors show up, so read it first.
The trade credit section is the history: which suppliers and creditors have reported activity, how much was owed, and whether it was paid on time. This is the part that grows, and the only part you can grow deliberately.
Public records carry liens, judgments and bankruptcies, gathered from court and filing data rather than reported by a creditor. Then the scores, which are the model's summary of everything above.
Reading the OneScore for Commercial
The single most common mistake is reading a commercial score against a consumer scale. The OneScore for Commercial runs from 300 to 650. A 516 on that range sits comfortably in the upper middle; the same number read against a 300 to 850 consumer scale looks poor. Lenders know the difference and business owners frequently do not.
The score moves on the things you would expect: payment timeliness, how much credit is extended and how much of it is used, the age and number of trade references, and anything sitting in public records. What it cannot reward is activity nobody reported.
How to see yours
You can request your file from Equifax directly. Ruproa's Professional plan and above put the Equifax Business file in your dashboard alongside your Creditsafe file, refreshed on your billing cycle, with the trade references and public records behind the score rather than the number alone.
Ruproa reports your payment activity to Creditsafe and Equifax Business every month, so the file you are watching is the file you are building.
If something on it is wrong
Errors on commercial files are common and the dispute route is real. Gather the documentation that contradicts the entry (invoices, statements, payment confirmations, a lien release) and file the dispute with the bureau holding the record.
Disputes are per bureau. Correcting an entry at Equifax does nothing to the same entry at Creditsafe, and the two files routinely disagree. That disagreement is itself a reason to watch both.
Common questions.
What is a good Equifax business credit score?
The OneScore for Commercial runs 300 to 650, and higher is better. Read any figure against that range rather than against a consumer scale, because the same number means something quite different on a 300 to 850 scale.
Is my Equifax business report the same as my personal Equifax report?
No. They are separate files with separate scores and separate scoring models. The business file is keyed to the business and its EIN.
How do I get my Equifax business credit report?
You can request it from Equifax directly. Ruproa's Professional plan and above include your live Equifax Business file in the dashboard next to your Creditsafe file, so you can see when the two disagree.
Does Ruproa report to Equifax Business?
Yes. Ruproa reports your payment activity to Creditsafe and Equifax Business every month.
